A sense of humor goes a long way in any hotel, but it’s especially welcome as a counterpoint to the Baroque self-seriousness that’s found all throughout the heart of Innsbruck. Enter Altstadthotel Weißes Kreuz, a renovated spin on a 15th-century building that once hosted Mozart himself. It’s as if a jilted baroness was let loose on the interiors, free to plop a high-backed suede armchair or a set of globe lamps wherever her sense of arch whimsy dictated. When you’ve had your Habsburg fill, don’t miss the rooftop bar, all decked out in dramatic skylights and candelabras, with serious mixology chops to back it all up.
