Though technically over the border from Provence, in the neighboring Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the village of Grignan, at the foot of a medieval castle, surrounded by fields of lavender, is no less emblematic of what makes the south of France special. And while Le Clair de la Plume doesn’t quite encompass the whole of the village, it feels like it does — with rooms and suites in several different buildings, and other sites devoted to the Michelin-starred restaurant, the garden and pool, and a lovely little boutique selling house-made pastries and local products, it’s a remarkably immersive experience.
The rooms and suites are classic in style but modern in comfort, each one unique, ranging from a cozy double room up under a third-floor mansard roof to expansive suites and family rooms that sleep up to four. They’re spread among several buildings, from the Main House and the Private House, both in the heart of the village, to a little one-room house called the Lovers’ Pavillion, set on the edge of the Mediterranean Garden property.
Also in the Main House is the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant, recipient of one MICHELIN Star and one Green Star for sustainability. The mediterranean garden is home to a summer-only Garden Restaurant, and the hotel’s bistro is to be found at La Ferme Chapouton, Le Clair de la Plume’s sister hotel, just outside the village.
