Whereas in some circles Brussels is a byword for the European bureaucracy, there are some small hotels that show the city’s stylish side in the best possible light. Among them is Craves, a Deco-inspired gem close to the central Grand Place. Its 59 rooms are a lavish fantasy in deep blue, and combine glamorous retro ornamentation with the focused simplicity that’s characteristic of modern design. Le Conteur, the restaurant, aims to be more than a mere eatery, with a travel-inspired menu incorporating Middle Eastern flavors as well as an eclectic interior whose details reward careful attention.
