Between the name — Mother Earth Vegan Hotel — and the location, on Tamarindo Bay, in northwest Costa Rica, it’s no great mystery what sort of hotel this is: eco-friendly, youthful, and contemporary in design, emphasizing mindful tranquility over hedonistic abandon. Its fourteen rooms are attractive and more than a little bit luxurious, and on the rooftop there’s a “yoga + healing studio,” alongside the hotel’s saltwater pool, with a commanding view over the town. Add to this Off the Grid, a restaurant serving a seasonal and entirely plant-based menu, and you’ve got a hotel that does exactly what it set out to do.
