Its owners and designers are architects, bar owners, artists, musicians, even surfers, and are exactly the sort of people any hip little boutique wants as its clientele.
Of course, you don’t need to know the details to get a feel for the place. One look at the photos and you can tell Flushing Meadows knows what it’s doing. Its sixteen studio rooms wring maximum personality out of minimal elements, with a modernist-inspired spareness and a few funky details, judiciously applied. You wouldn’t mistake them for extravagant luxury suites, but they’re more than comfortable enough, and the penthouse studios are not only spacious, but offer terraces with views of the Alps as well.
Naturally, the bar is an important part of Flushing Meadows’ appeal. It’s right there in the name, after all. And a beauty it is — it’s a rooftop terrace bar with a creative drinks menu and a wood-fired oven, proof that Munich’s lifestyle includes a pretty strong current of the Mediterranean good life.
