Hotel Saint Cecilia
It’s part of the Bunkhouse Hotels family, along with another notable exception, the well-loved (and nearby) Hotel San Jose. But while the San Jose is essentially a budget boutique, a rehabilitated motel, the Hotel Saint Cecilia takes off running in the direction of “luxury guest house” and never really stops. Of course Austin-style luxury includes not just those wildly expensive Hästens handmade mattresses, but an in-house vintage vinyl library as well. Put it this way: the Hotel Saint Cecilia’s blend of bold modern colors and impeccably curated antiques wouldn’t even register as upscale in Houston or Dallas; here in Austin it’s clear at a glance that this is the place to stay.
The lounge is guests-only, which is crucial, as a hotel this hip can go from hot ticket to velvet rope in no time at all. The Hotel Saint Cecilia, by contrast, mixes a generous helping of bed and breakfast in with its rock-and-roll cocktail — ensuring it a longer half-life than the average hip hotel.
Tip: the courtyard-facing rooms are a bit louder, while the rooms to the rear of the property are much quieter.

Lovely little haven in a vibrant area of Austin
The location was great. The vibe was perfect.
I have stayed at the Saint Cecilia many times over the years since it opened, but was quite unhappy with my previous stay. They seem to have elevated the sense of discretion to a stifling, sanguine sort of self-importance, and as a result the management comes across as dismissive, grumpy and often unfriendly - maybe it's an creeping approximation of Parisian manners reflected throughout. An impromptu gathering of 8 or so friends and associates in the empty hotel bar was met with a passive rebuke the following morning - only six guests allowed - instead of gratitude for providing them with a healthy tab. After they chased me out of my room at 11:45, I also had multiple issues with the final bill: wrong charges, charges billed twice or to the wrong card. I hope they can work on improving the operations so that there is more focus on the guest, basic accommodate of needs, intermingled with the same sense of quiet mystery that pervades. Danny Meyer or other masters of hospitality like Kit Kemp would be shaking their heads in disappointment.
