Set in the impossibly dramatic landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, the Torridon stands alongside the loch of the same name. It’s not the easiest place to get to, but it’s worth the journey; it’s surrounded by almost 60 acres of parkland, and looks like something out of a Romantic-era fairy tale. The interior style is refreshingly contemporary, and richly varied, as are the rooms and suites, not just in the house but in the outlying stables and the private Boathouse as well. 1887, the restaurant, is Highland Scottish fare at its most elevated, while Bo & Muc offers more casual and perhaps heartier restoration after a day spent at the Highlands’ various outdoor pursuits.

The Torridon is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
