Reisen sits right on the waterfront in Stockholm’s Old Town, with views across to Skeppsholmen and the 19th-century sailing ship Chapman. The building dates to 1617 and has lived many lives: coffee house, tavern, literary haunt, before becoming a hotel. Rooms vary in character; some have vaulted ceilings or 17th-century brick, others offer wide water views. The Tjärn spa, built into the city’s old defensive wall, features a vaulted cold plunge pool and sauna, and one brick still bears the footprint of a woman who helped lay it over 300 years ago. The Royal Palace, narrow lanes, and independent shops of Gamla Stan are just steps from the front door.
