The Latin Quarter, for all its many charms, isn’t the first place you’d think to look in Paris for an elegant little luxury hotel. But that’s exactly what you’ll find in the Hôtel Grand Coeur Latin. Here Marie-Paule Clout and Vincent Bastie have created an experience that draws on innumerable eras of Parisian history, and the resulting hotel is a fine ambassador for this famously eclectic neighborhood.

It’s a site of some distinction: beneath the current building lies not only a 13th-century abbey, but, discovered during a 2022 renovation, an ancient Roman ruin. The present-day spa with its impressive pool is thus inspired by classic Roman baths, and throughout the hotel an arch motif recalls both the abbey’s archway and the aqueducts of the Roman empire.

Rooms spread across seven floors, each one decorated in its own carefully focused color palette; even the single rooms are swanky, if cozy, while the suites are luxurious indeed. The Grand Coeur Latin goes without a restaurant, but its stylish bar serves drinks accompanied by light fare until eleven at night.
