Settled by the Portuguese in the 17th century, Paraty is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which sits on a beautiful stretch of coastline and hosts a major literary festival each year. Pousada Literária de Paraty, housed in a gorgeously restored colonial mansion in the heart of the historic center, is the event’s official inn. The boutique hotel features a large library, naturally — start with anything by Jorge Amado — as well as a pretty swimming pool and a farm-to-table restaurant with breezy indoor and outdoor seating. Suites are modern and spacious, furnished with colorful textiles, 600-thread-count sheets, and customizable minibars. Some have fireplaces and living rooms, and all have books on display.
