London is home to some cutting-edge hospitality experiments, but traditionalists take heart: it’s also got its share of perfectly judged contemporary classics. The Adria is a 19th-century townhouse in South Kensington, a quick walk from the Natural History Museum, the Victoria & Albert, and the bottom of Brompton Road. Inside are 24 rooms and suites, all renovated in a traditional-meets-modern style with luxe extras like underfloor heating and marble bathrooms. The Adria’s ambitions don’t quite extend to a full-service restaurant, though the breakfast is a substantial one, and the afternoon tea is a suitably elegant affair. The hotel has managed to squeeze in small wellness area, however, with a sauna and a range of treatments available to pre-book including massages, physiotherapy, and reflexology.
