现代设计 和 安静
Malaysia may not be the first place that springs to mind in the context of beachfront island getaways, but while the less imaginative travelers descend upon Thailand and Bali, a new resort scene has developed on Malaysia’s Langkawi Island, on the Andaman Sea.
Perhaps the most luxurious of these resorts is the Datai, set back from the impossibly pure white sand beach, a short walk uphill into the dense and unspoiled jungle. The resort is not alone on the island, though the thick forest completely obscures this fact—you’ll be hard pressed to find evidence of any of the neighboring hotels, and in fact the foliage is so dense you may at times lose sight of the Datai itself.
Rooms in the main building are a relative bargain, and some on the upper floor reach above the trees for unimpeded views of the sea—and guests who are feeling antisocial are welcome to book one of the outlying villas. The style of the interiors is what could reasonably be called Aman Modern, highly designed, all lush linens, hardwood floors, and Oriental furnishings, with the obligatory marble baths and satellite TV. Corner and End suites, naturally, have the best views.
A world-class spa is to be expected, and this one does not disappoint. For more athletic types, the Datai boasts an impressive range of activities, quite belying its deep-jungle ambience—water sports are plentiful, golfing fanatics may indulge their infernal pursuit, and the lighted tennis courts are open into the night. The two outdoor pools, surrounded by dense jungle, are particularly remarkable—just stay on the lookout for monkeys and lemurs, who may be tempted to involve you in their ongoing turf war.
