The Florentine Renaissance painter Domenico Ghirlandaio was once the proprietor of this scenic Tuscan estate, mere minutes outside of Florence’s city center. And while plenty has changed since the days when a young Michelangelo passed through his workshop, the essential character of Dimora Ghirlandaio remains as appealing as it ever was: a Medici-style villa surrounded by picture-perfect Tuscan countryside, supplied with produce and wines from this legendary region.

Today the estate’s bedrooms, divided amongst a number of villas, are equal parts antique and contemporary, retaining their historical character but furnished with up-to-date comforts. A spa, set under the brick barrel vault of the estate’s cellar, offers more intensive relaxation. And Dimora Ghirlandaio’s table, serving traditional Tuscan fare crafted from the estate’s own produce and olive oil, is open only to guests.
