In the last couple of decades Colombia has done a great deal to shed its difficult reputation, and tourism is booming once again — with perhaps no destination seeing more of a benefit than the colonial city of Cartagena. “Colonial” isn’t just a stylistic descriptor — this house dates back to 1560, and was one of the city’s first stone structures. The renovation that transformed it into the boutique hotel you see today was more recent — just in 2015 — but the restoration was a sensitive one, preserving the building’s historical character while updating it with modern furniture and amenities. The location, in the heart of Cartagena’s historic walled city, is as central as can be, convenient for sightseeing and revelry alike.
