Soho Beach House Canouan

It’s hard to imagine that when Soho House founder Nick Jones got the keys to the first Greek Street location in Central London, he had any idea the concept would take him as far as St. Vincent and the Grenadines. But here we are; the London-born, now global members’ club phenomenon has expanded not only to New York and Los Angeles but to Hong Kong, Istanbul, and Canouan Island. Obviously Soho Beach House Canouan isn’t exactly like the original Soho House, just as the Caribbean isn’t Great Britain. But what’s remarkable is how much of the Soho House vision survives the translation to thatched roofs, swaying palms, and white sand beaches.

The 40 bedrooms are lined up in three low buildings along the beach; sizes vary, but all face the sea, which is a nice equitable touch. The look is unmistakably Caribbean but also refreshingly cliché-free; every detail, in classic Soho House style, feels both carefully considered and effortlessly achieved. And, as always, it’s the social spaces that shine the brightest: the Beach Bar, which is a fantastic example of the genre, and the Terrace Bar and the open-air dining room, serving elevated, wood-fired Caribbean fare alongside a few favorites from the global Soho House menu.
