Any photographer knows that sometimes, for the best views of your subject, you have to take a few steps away. The Lost Garden - Porto Emotions Lodge stands just outside of Porto, across the Douro River, on the Vila Nova de Gaia side. Thus it’s a modest walk or a very short drive from Porto’s picturesque center, and yet it offers a pastoral atmosphere, set amid verdant gardens and woodlands.
Its design style is appropriately nature-focused, but stylish all the same; the rooms feel resort-like, rather than urban, and the minimalist-rustic style is supremely soothing. The nature-forward approach extends to the details; much of the furniture is locally handmade, and the hotel produces its own soaps and aromatherapy scents. A repurposed grocery store now serves as the hotel’s breakfast venue and café, and the Lost Bar opens onto a terrace with a view of the river and of Porto.
