Modern Design & Happening
When a Berlin hotel takes a French name, it’s a sign that something a little bit out of the ordinary is happening within its walls. Provocateur, in the western district of Charlottenburg, just off the Kurfürstendamm, aims to import the exotic glamour of 1920s Paris to present-day Berlin, nearly a century later. It’s something of a sequel to Roomers in Frankfurt, but this is no chain hotel; Provocateur is truly one-of-a-kind.

From the outside this meticulously restored early modern Art Nouveau building is quintessential West Berlin. But once you’re over the threshold, you’re immersed in a vibrant, textured burlesque fantasy. The rooms are romantic as can be, full of opulent details and touchable surfaces. And the appeal is more than just visual; beneath this throwback dressing is a thoroughly luxe and contemporary hotel room, from the tiny Petite on up to the sprawling De Luxe.

It doesn’t end there. The restaurant, Golden Phoenix, is a vision in retro Chinoiserie, and it appropriately serves a French-Chinese hybrid cuisine by celebrated local chef Duc Ngo. And the bar is the gateway to an impossibly decadent evening, with the burlesque vibe turned up to ten and an extremely knowledegeable staff of bartenders supplying the refreshments.
