Poland’s Tricity: Delicious, Diverse and for Every Budget

Discover the Beauty of the Bib Gourmand Award.

The Bib Gourmand Award proves that good food doesn’t have to be expensive! You’re not familiar with it? Represented by the image of the feasting MICHELIN Man — “Bibendum,” or simply “Bib” — the Bib Gourmand Award stands for the best value for money in the MICHELIN Guide.

The MICHELIN Guide’s Bib Gourmand distinction is one of the most sought-after by travelers, marking places that serve well-crafted and reasonably priced food — perfect for an everyday lunch or dinner while away from home. It’s also a category that spans different styles and cuisines, offering something to suit every taste. Let’s take a closer look at the Bib Gourmand restaurants in Poland’s coastal Tricity, an area that includes Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot.

1911 Restaurant - Sopot

This pocket-sized restaurant charms with its French-inspired ambience and bistro-style cooking. Chef Bartosz Kamiński keeps the menu short but sweet, built around seasonal produce and bistronomic flair.

With autumn’s arrival, mushrooms enter the kitchen, from golden chanterelles served on savory waffles with onion marmalade, Groseran aged cheese and sour cream, to a Charolais steak finished with pepper sauce and chanterelles. In spring, asparagus takes center stage, paired with a silky plant-based cream, capers and wild garlic, or folded into a classic white risotto enriched with a hearty amount of butter and perfumed with fragrant morels.

While visiting 1911, it’s worth asking about the day’s specials: They not only showcase the chef’s creativity and sensitivity to seasons, but also provide a tasty excuse to return sooner rather than later.

Hewelke - Gdańsk

Named after Gdańsk’s most famous astronomer — who was also a talented brewer — Johann Hewelke (also known as Jan Heweliusz in Polish or Johannes Hevelius in Latin), this bustling bistro is housed in a beautifully restored historic brewery. In the mornings it doubles as a neighborhood bakery, loved for its sourdough bread, pretzels and sweet treats.

Later in the day, it transforms into a casual restaurant with a menu inspired by cuisines from all over the world. Alongside local specialities like Żuławy-style herring with potatoes you’ll find Galician grilled octopus enlivened with chorizo. A traditional pork chop with sautéed cabbage and potato purée will be featured next to Peking duck served with rice pancakes and vegan-friendly roasted eggplant with popadams. After dinner, head to the bar for a selection of well-crafted cocktails.

Treinta y Tres - Gdańsk

Located on the 33rd floor of the Olivia Center tower (hence the name, “33” in Spanish), Treinta y Tres is the casual sister to the MICHELIN-Starred Arco by Paco Pérez. Its kitchen draws inspiration from sunny Mediterranean cuisine and the culture of Spanish tapas — here elevated by the talented and creative team led by Chef Antonio Arcieri.

Start with chistorra sausage sautéed with cider and eggplant with mole and honey, or chipirones a la plancha, grilled baby calamari with garlic and parsley. Move on to rice with carabinero prawns or Rubia Gallega beef tenderloin with Roquefort cheese sauce and piquillo peppers. Everything is complemented by creative cocktails from the bar or wines from the restaurant’s well-stocked cellar.

Vinissimo - Sopot

If the name makes you think “they might be into wines here,” you’re very much right. Vinissimo is an exemplary wine-driven bistro with a smartly curated selection, often available by the glass.

Tucked in a quaint side street off the busy Bohaterow Monte Cassino, Vinissimo is a great space to enjoy some relaxed time when visiting the always-popular Sopot. The menu by Chef Łukasz Theus follows the principle of “minimal form, maximum taste,” drawing inspiration from classic bistro cooking and seasonal produce. Expect steak tartare with wild garlic and horseradish, grilled prawns with an anise and passion fruit dressing or veal croquettes with jalapeño mayonnaise and Grana Padano cheese.

Among the main dishes you’ll find both meat and vegetarian options — tortellini with ricotta and wild garlic, entrecôte steak with mustard sauce — and since you’re only a short walk from the beach, it’s no surprise to see fish and chips on the menu. Not only do they know how to do it spot-on, but naturally they also know how to pair it perfectly with wine.
