Palazzo Del Duca Hotel & Restaurant

Via Muro 45, Sasso Caveoso, Matera, Italy
16 Rooms
Contemporary Classic & Quiet
The Malvini Malvezzi family from Bologna owned this palazzo back when they ruled fiefdoms across southern Italy. Restoration stuck to period materials: coccio-pesto plaster, lime wash, tuff stone, natural pigments. Local artisans handled specialized work: upholsterers made padded headboards, tufaroli carved stone where needed. Two suites drop heated pools into ancient rock-cut cisterns, waterfalls cascading against raw tuff. Beyond those, a cave suite, another featuring a Sassi-view terrace. Five standard rooms are furnished in antiques and iron-and-wood pieces that feel appropriately baronial. The palazzo sits in central Matera, close to the Cathedral.
