MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

All the major global players have Maldivian resorts, but there’s space, still, for a homegrown brand: Ozen is a small group, entirely focused on the Maldives, and its flagship, Ozen Reserve Bolifushi, belongs in the top tier along with all the more familiar names. As you’d expect, it occupies its own private island and lagoon in the South Malé Atoll. And on this island — and on stilts in the shallow water that surrounds it — are a collection of suites, villas, pavilions, and “reserves” to rival anything in the region.

At all sizes, the accommodations are spacious, tasteful, and finely finished. Many of the overwater units come with waterslides to deliver guests directly into the Indian Ocean; they also feature plunge pools, while many of the on-land units come with L-shaped lap pools.

The plan is all-inclusive, and begins with an airport transfer via private catamaran. An expansive spa features its own overwater treatment pavilions, and there’s an on-site dive center to prepare guests for underwater adventures. And given the remoteness of the location — there’s no popping off to town for a quick bite — Ozen Reserve Bolifushi sensibly divides its culinary attention across five separate venues, plus the possibility of a private meal in a setting of your choice.
