Contemporary Classic & Lively
There’s still nothing else in North America quite like Canada’s string of grand railway hotels; the MacDonald, formally known as the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, is an incongruously old-fashioned structure, a storybook French Renaissance castle standing by the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. What’s inside, however, is a perfectly contemporary luxury hotel, in classic Fairmont style, featuring handsome and well-equipped rooms and suites, and, at the top end, lavish suites named for Winston Churchill, King Edward VIII, and Queen Elizabeth II. No surprise, then, that among the MacDonald’s culinary offerings is a highly regarded afternoon tea.
