One Star: High quality cooking
The fabulous lakeside location and wonderful terrace are certainly part of the appeal here, but this restaurant has plenty more to recommend it. Dedicated chef-patron Alois Neuschmid, who earned a MICHELIN star years ago at Lois, his previous restaurant here in the same town, cooks up a storm for his guests. At lunchtime, the menu features simpler daily specials, such as fried black pudding, pasta or Wiener schnitzel; in the evening, fine dining is the name of the game, with a four-course surprise menu. In the contemporary, seasonally inspired dishes, the main ingredient is often presented in two variations, skilfully highlighting the exceptional quality of produce such as fresh whitefish from the surrounding lakes. There are optional wine pairings to go with the set menu. The outstanding food is complemented by an enjoyably unpretentious atmosphere and very friendly service – the chef himself gets in on the act. Be sure to book, as this congenial and cosy restaurant gets busy at lunch and dinnertime.
