Modern Design & Secluded
Perched on the edge of a quiet freshwater lake, Monachyle Mhor is the elegant centerpiece of a 2,000-acre working farm in the Scottish highlands. With an upscale restaurant specializing in elevated Scottish cuisine made with ingredients produced on-site — and freshly baked scones with cream served anytime at the bar — it’s as much a low-key foodie destination as a stylish boutique hotel.

This restored 18th-century farmhouse contains a handful of classic rooms, cloister-like with whitewashed walls and natural wood paneling, while the hotel’s more eclectic lodgings are scattered around the grounds. An architecturally striking treehouse suite rises up on one end, and a midcentury glamping wagon is parked on the other, with options in between ranging from a cozy pine cabin with a wood-burning stove to modern suites with Eames chairs and side-by-side freestanding bathtubs. Hiking, foraging, and salmon fishing are easily arranged, and for the adventurous, there’s nothing more refreshing than a chilly morning dip in the wild loch.
