Our Habitas Bacalar
They face either the lagoon or the jungle, and all of them combine boutique-hotel stylishness with safari-camp proximity to the outdoors. The wellness program borrows heavily from Maya tradition and modern spa treatments, as well as yoga and meditation. A wide variety of outdoor adventures are available, including many ways to experience the gentle waters of the lagoon, beginning with a sunrise paddle board excursion.
Habitas’ arts and culture programming brings local music and traditional crafts to your doorstep. And the restaurant is, partly by virtue of the hotel’s remoteness, strict about its locally sourced ingredients, which are hand-selected by the restaurant’s chefs from nearby farms — here the plant-based cuisine is prized not just for flavor but for its medicinal effects as well.

Habitas Bacalar is true paradise, where the wild and lush jungle meets the lagoon of seven colors. The property is beautifully designed with minimalist-yet-luxurious A-frame abodes and thatched-roof open-air communal spaces integrated seamlessly within the enveloping jungle canopies, connected by meandering wooden bridges and raised walkways. Our room was perfect - comfortable, clean, quiet, mosquito-free... and with the best outdoor shower under the leafy canopies and tropical bird sounds. The service was lovely - warm, genuine. The food was incredible - fresh, colorful, and lots of veggies! The lagoon-side deck was fun and lively, a great space to lounge on the daybeds in between swims or SUPs, or have a margarita and watch the sunset. The spa was also great - enjoyed a facial! This stay was a bit of a splurge, as rates were quite high nearing New Year's, but it was worth every penny. We can't wait to come back!
