Modern Design & Lively
The Clements has been part of Cambridge life since 1866, when Archibald Clements opened the town’s first hotel on Duke Street. Fires were a recurring hazard, and after the original building was lost in 1911, it was reborn a year later under architect John Currie, who gave it the grand Beaux-Arts façade, stained glass, and sweeping staircase that still define it. Its latest restoration lets those details shine once more. Downstairs, the Gallery Restaurant and a speakeasy bar set the tone for convivial evenings, often beginning with the hotel’s own gin, distilled from an 1860s recipe and poured with history in every glass.
