The main focus of the Sofitel Frankfurt Opera is clearly stated in the name; it’s set not just in the Opera District, but right on the Opernplatz itself, just across the road from the newly rebuilt Alte Oper. But this is a fantastic location for business travelers as well — it’s also the central business district, with the historic city center a short walk in the other direction. Local color, then, is a given; this Sofitel, like all its siblings, emphasizes its Frenchness, both in style and in atmosphere.
The rooms are subtly Parisian in aspect, though in typical Sofitel style it’s a tasteful resemblance, nothing the least bit kitschy; jewel tones against rich earth tones, with just a hint of Art Deco. Functionally, these brand-new rooms and suites are state-of-the-art, with Illy espresso machines, Bose sound systems, and Lanvin products in the exquisitely comfortable bathrooms.
A French spa in a German hotel might just be the perfect combination, as glamorous extravagance meets serious wellness. Lili’s, the cocktail bar, serves Le Goûter coffee and French pastries, and does double duty as a performance venue. And Restaurant Schönemann combines German and French flavors alongside a wine list representing the best of both countries.
