Two hours’ drive from Budapest, in the lakeside resort town of Balatonfüred, the Hotel Petit Bois offers a thoroughly luxurious experience. The adults-only policy certainly doesn’t hurt, but more important is its atmosphere of Belle Époque elegance, tempered with judicious contemporary flourishes and modern, even high-tech comforts. Many rooms overlook the park that lends the hotel its name, while others have views of the lake. The rooftop bar and restaurant is a particular highlight, opening as it does onto a terrace with a pool; the spa, too, is noteworthy, an elaborate escape in a characteristically Hungarian manner.
