The Contemporary Appeal of Ancient Sicily
An essential stop on the 19th-century Grand Tour — which led German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to exclaim, “Italy without Sicily leaves no image upon the soul. Here lies the key to everything” — the island has long associated quality hospitality with its most glamorous and photographed destination: Taormina.
A place that still today attracts elite travelers thanks to its world-class hotels, including one of the new Three-Key properties, the San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel, made even more famous worldwide by the hit series The White Lotus.
In the past four to five years, however, tourism development has seen a new trend emerge: the rediscovery of magnificent rural Sicily, with its traditional bagli and farmhouses. The southeastern coast — stretching from the slopes of Mount Etna to the Val di Noto — is a treasure chest of unique destinations, immersed in silence and far from the frenzy of crowded beaches.

Our Inspectors have not been immune to the charms of the many new luxury hotels opening in Rome in recent years. In 2025, the Eternal City earns counts 19 Key hotels: a record among Italian cities and a tangible sign of the city's everlasting allure. Venerable school buildings, old, restored inns, noble palaces, and even former public offices have been transformed for our era into uniquely charming hotels, welcoming guests with frescoed ceilings, contemporary design and terraces that open out to unforgettable views of the Roman sunset.
Between Via di Ripetta and its surroundings you’ll find seven Keys — including refined The First Arte, Rome, enchanting Palazzo Ripetta and impeccable Bvlgari Hotel Roma, a perfect synthesis of past and present boasting Three MICHELIN Keys.
Timeless Tuscany
From the city of Florence to its iconic countryside, the Tuscan hotel scene is among the most robust in Europe with an impressive 44 distinctions — 17 of which are new entries or promotions — including two of the five new Three-Key hotels in Italy: the Four Seasons Firenze and the enchanting Borgo Santo Pietro in Chiusdino.
A truly timeless destination, the guiding principle here is a rustic warmth and an aristocratic refinement. Long a paradigm — imitated but never matched — of beauty and harmony, the cradle of the Renaissance continues to enchant with its rows of cypress trees, vineyard-covered hills, ancient parish churches and farmhouses that silently watch over the landscape from above.
