Savannah’s Bellwether House is, strictly speaking, a bed and breakfast, but the lodging that lies within its twin 19th-century Italianate houses exceeds what’s ordinarily expected of a B&B. Its 16 rooms are impressive — they vary widely in size, but all are luxuriously outfitted, and designed in a modern-classic style that adapts antique elements to contemporary use. A unique Indian-accented breakfast is indeed just about the extent of the food and beverage service; it’s followed up by afternoon tea and, around sunset, a full bar whose opening is heralded by a ceremonial bottle of Champagne — opened with a saber, no less.
