Contemporary Classic & Quiet
Midcoast Maine, the stretch of the Atlantic coast that lies just beyond Portland, is splendid enough on its own terms, a place where some of America’s wildest landscapes and seascapes meet the highly civilized traditions of New England hospitality. A stay there can be improved, however, with just a touch of boutique-hotel influence, which is what you’ll find at the Inn at Ocean’s Edge. Here, on the shores of Penobscot Bay, betwen the picturesque towns of Camden and Belfast, is a hotel that combines old-world elegance and modern hospitality in roughly equal measure, to great effect.

18 of the rooms occupy the main inn building, with 12 more in a separate hilltop structure, and a couple of studio suites in the poolhouse. None are in any way second-class — the main inn is closer to the action, the hilltop rooms are a touch more private, and the poolhouse’s main attraction hardly needs naming. In all categories they’ve got king beds, gas fireplaces, and Gilchrist & Soames bath products.

Two massage rooms, a hot tub, and a sauna make up the Inn’s spa services, and the infinity pool is a fine place to while away the afternoon. And from here you’re close by to Lincolnville Beach, Owls Head State Park, and, an hour and a half away, the well-loved Acadia National Park.
