Blind Tiger Asheville

Whether it’s a hidden gem or simply a gem is up for debate, but Asheville, North Carolina is one of the most pleasant destinations in the American South — known for its modest size, its artistic and creative culture, and its spectacular natural surroundings. The same things that attract travelers presumably attracted Lark Hotels, the Northeastern boutique-hotel group behind the Blind Tiger guest houses. And Blind Tiger Asheville is true to form: a beautifully restored 19th-century Queen Anne–style house in Chestnut Hill, a few blocks to the north of downtown, transformed into a stylish 14-room guest house that makes a point of blending in to the local community.

Each room, in fact — including the one stand-alone cottage — comes with a letter from a different Asheville resident full of suggestions about things to do and see in town. The artworks, too, are sourced from local makers, and while the interiors have been updated, they’re perfectly suited to the house’s original style, full of vintage furnishings and subtle modern touches. There’s a grab-and-go breakfast each morning, as well as coffee and tea all day, but that’s the extent of the food and beverage program — this is, after all, a guest house rather than a hotel, and you’re encouraged to get out and see the town.
