You can probably guess from the name that the Grand Poet Hotel by Semarah isn’t afraid of an artistic flourish or two. Set just across from the charming canalside Bastejkalna Park and a short stroll from Riga’s Old Town, the hotel occupies a stately 19th-century building. Step inside, though, and you’ll find yourself in a postmodern Belle Époque fantasy—amplified by bold graphic murals and a vivid contemporary color palette.
Rooms and suites are lavishly styled, the aptly named Hedonic Spa delivers on indulgence, and the hotel’s restaurant, Snob, is anything but—despite the name. It offers creative, modern cuisine in a space that’s chic without being self-important.
Thanks to a collaboration with the nearby Art Academy of Latvia, the hotel also serves as a showcase for emerging local talent, exhibiting and acquiring works by academy students for an engaging, ever-evolving glimpse into Riga’s contemporary art scene.
