Modern Design & Lively
The Hoxton hotels were, of course, born in the London neighborhood of the same name, so they’ll always have a British accent — but their first overseas expansion proves that they’re quite flexible in adapting to their surroundings. The Hoxton, Paris is quite an adaptation, commandeering an 18th-century mansion in a particularly hip corner of the 2nd arrondissement and turning it into a chic, modern, and relatively affordable boutique hotel in the signature modern-bohemian Hoxton style.
French designers Humbert & Poyet are responsible for the rooms, and their aesthetic, incorporating high glamour as well as almost rustic simplicity, suits the Hoxton concept to a tee. With room categories like Shoebox and Cosy, they’re careful not to overpromise — this is Paris, after all — but they’re comfortable and cleverly laid out, with little luxuries where they matter most, and nothing extraneous at all.
You’re meant to spend quite a bit of your time in the public spaces, after all — and here they’ve had help from Soho House in designing Rivié, a modern French spot with Asian influences, as well as the Moroccan-themed Jacques’ Bar and Planche, a wine bar specializing in natural and organic labels. It’s no grand palace hotel, but something so stylish at an attainable price is big news, perhaps even more so in Paris than anywhere else.
