Contemporary Classic & Quiet
The days when Laguna Beach was an undiscovered hideaway or a sleepy little artists’ colony are some years in the past. But they’re not so far out of reach that the right hotel can’t recapture a bit of the vibe. Though to call the Casa Laguna Hotel & Spa a hotel might be overstating matters a bit. With just twenty-two units it’s slightly larger than the archetypal bed and breakfast, but only just, and given the insular nature of the accommodations, the quiet garden courtyard, and a breakfast that’s got something of a national reputation.
Some of that quiet, by the way, is a matter of policy — Casa Laguna is adults-only, double occupancy only, and thus more or less purpose-built for a couples getaway. The accommodations, from rooms to suites to the cottage, are cozy but not kitschy, comfort reigns supreme, and there’s a certain understated elegance, without ever lapsing into design theatrics. The fireplaces go a long way as well, despite what you might think about Southern California’s climate — and should you need to unwind further, there’s always the option of a massage, a spa treatment, or a dip in the heated pool. If there’s one thing you could wish for it might be that the Casa Laguna were on the beach side, rather than the east side, of the Pacific Coast Highway, which would mean more direct beach access — then again, real estate prices being what they are, a hotel like this probably couldn’t exist on the west side of the PCH.
Please note: Casa Laguna Hotel & Spa cannot accommodate guest under the age of 18.
