Cala del Porto Punta Ala
The mid-century architecture gives little indication of what’s within, but the Cala del Porto is a Baglioni hotel, and the group’s trademark elegant stylishness is very much on display in the interiors. The better rooms look out over the Tyrrhenian sea towards the eye-catching island of Elba, and some of them open directly onto the gardens or the pool deck — an underrated luxury, but an important one, which helps mightily to maintain Cala del Porto’s resort atmosphere.
Hotel rooms, though, are somewhat secondary. A stay here is a master class in what makes the Maremma special. The spa provides the needed rest and relaxation, and the Brunello Lounge & Restaurant makes for fine socializing, as well as a sampling of Tuscany’s famous food and wine. And farther afield there’s the beach, a golf club right in town, and all manner of sightseeing, both on land and by sea.
Please note: Hotel Cala Del Porto is open seasonally, May through September.
