This entry in the Art Series hotels is dedicated to John Olsen, a local painter whose Fifties and Sixties abstractions slowly evolved into identifiable (and iconic) Australian landscapes. His work adorns the Olsen’s interiors, of course, from the lobby to the rooms, a wide selection that runs the gamut from cozy studios to two-bedroom suites and a pair of penthouses. All are stylishly decorated and luxuriously outfitted, complete with the latest high-tech comforts — and the glass-bottomed rooftop pool and the expansive day spa go above and beyond typical design-hotel fare. The setting, on Chapel Street in the hip neighborhood of South Yarra, is tough to beat, and the restaurant is a worthy local entry.
