As the name suggests, wine reigns supreme at this welcoming establishment, which boasts an intimate urban garden to the rear – perfect on sunny days. Proprietor and leading sommelier David van Steenderen clearly delights in choosing from a cellar of more than 1 000 labels and enjoys introducing diners to his discoveries through a variety of pairings. Finesse also defines the cuisine. Classical cooking and technical skill meet contemporary thinking and occasional Mediterranean flourishes. Take the coq au vin blanc, for example: succulent Gildehoen chicken infused with the subtle fruitiness of white wine, served with goat's cheese polenta, pumpkin cream and a rounded chicken jus enriched with bacon, courgette and a dab of mustard. The extensive à la carte selection and appealing set menu with choices for each course are the icing on the cake!
