MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
Bangladesh may not yet be a boutique-hotel hotbed, but it is a place where you can find luxury hospitality practiced at the highest level, thanks to hotels like the InterContinental Dhaka. The city-center location is nothing if not convenient, and while at 226 rooms and suites it’s no small operation, neither is it a skyscraping behemoth — there’s room here for individualized service and a bit of the personal touch.
In its aesthetic it’s essentially a cosmopolitan, international-style business hotel, but with plenty of Bangladeshi influence, from the patterned screens inherited from Islamic architecture to a color palette that’s decidedly local. The rooms are tastefully swanky, with marble bathrooms and modernist office chairs, and the comforts are state-of-the-art.
And despite its city-center location, the InterContinental Dhaka has plenty to offer to leisure-oriented guests. Along with all the expected business and events functionality you can expect to find the HARNN Heritage Spa, an outdoor pool lined with cabana seating, and several restaurants: from the versatile and eclectic Elements and Café Social to the Amber Room grill, the Opus Lounge & Bar, and the Aqua Deck, serving lighter fare by the poolside.
