The Dunstane Houses - Hampton House

Edinburgh’s stately Dunstane House is a perfect slice of country-house charm in the city, and the only knock against it was that there simply wasn’t enough of it to go around. That’s where Hampton House comes in. It’s another 1860s-vintage Victorian house, right across the street from the original, and in the not-so-distant future it’ll be in every way the equal of the first Dunstane House.

For the time being, however, it’s something of a little sister to the more luxurious, more fully realized Dunstane House. A quiet renovation is set to make it every bit as stylish as its neighbor — and its rooms already contain extravagances like handmade Vispring beds, baths and showers by Hansgrohe, bath products by Noble Isle, and Samsung smart TVs.

The “Wee” double and single rooms are as cozy as they sound, while the deluxe doubles and twins spread out a bit. But if it’s a suite you’re after, you’ll be better served across the road. That’s where you’ll go for a bite or a drink anyway — the delightful Ba’Bar, in Dunstane House, serves Scottish food at its finest, from haggis bonbons to Orkney scallops, as well as a first-rate selection of local spirits.
