Casa No Name

6 Rooms
Contemporary Classic & Quiet
Originally built for the local bishop in the 18th century, this stunning six-room mansion is tucked into the heart of San Miguel de Allende. The late fashion photographer Deborah Turbeville lived in Casa No Name for more than twenty years, and made it famous in a photo book not long before her death. Fortunately the photos aren’t the only way to remember Casa No Name: in its new life it’s a luxurious little boutique hotel, in which the old master suite — now called Deborah’s Suite — is only one choice among several.

They’re all distinct, in both layout and in content, some with fireplaces, some with balconies, and one, the Naia suite, featuring a window in the floor, looking down into an abandoned 18th-century tunnel. Tunnels aside, though, they’re all as warm and welcoming as could be, decorated with the eclectic eye you’d expect of a fashion insider and art collector. What edges Casa No Name close to luxury-hotel territory — along with the exceptional comfort of the rooms — is probably the rooftop terrace, with its hot tub, its tented spa, and its cozy little bar. All that’s missing is a restaurant of its own; Casa No Name features a splendid breakfast in the courtyard, but for lunch and dinner you’re at the mercy of the surrounding streets — not at all an unpleasant situation, fortunately.

This intimate 6 room hotel maintains its historical architecture while creating a luxurious atmosphere. The scent of blooming jasmine and sound of water features (drifting with fuchsia bouganvillia flowers) muffle traffic noise and add to the lush plantings in public spaces. The breakfast room and rooftop lounge areas are absolutely dreamy. While Casa No Name does not offer a day/night menu, there is a lovely breakfast and a tapas menu at the roof bar. On our arrival, Daniella welcomed us with delicious drink and a cool towel followed by a tour. As Plus members, there was also a fruit tray and gift in our room. The room was spotless with a comfortable bed, luxurious sheets, fireplace and a great shower. I’ve read some people complain that the complimentary breakfast of coffee, juice and a sweet bread is too little. As a chef I must mention that, honestly, no small hotel (only 6 rooms!) can offer such high quality food and staff for free. So, I’d suggest giving yourself an upgrade and ordering absolutely anything off their morning menu (we tried them all) as the kitchen puts out some exceptional Mexican food that will prepare you for a long day walking the streets and hills of SMA. Finally, no good hotel is complete without a great staff. Lourdes manages to be warm and welcoming while running a very tight ship. Her staff was very kind and helpful making us feel very much at home. 10 days was not enough.
