Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking
There are plenty of taquerias around town, but this East Village gem is a notable cut above. The breezy space features high ceilings, concrete floors and a full bar, and manages to cook even better than it looks. All day long, the kitchen prepares plush, tender tortillas, which take on a range of fun fillings like pork belly adobada with pineapple, smoked pork shoulder with tomatillos, and grilled steak with crispy onions. On a chilly day, posole verde is comfort in a bowl. Finish with Mexican mole-chocolate ice cream or the deliciously crunchy churros.
