Take a sprawling organic farm with a tropical twist, the rolling hills thick with mango and lemon trees. Then add a serious French chef specializing in sustainable cuisine, a tray of colorful Caribbean-style cocktails, and a championship golf course designed by Ian Woosnam. Then place the whole thing on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. It’s a real place, and it’s called Belle Mont Farm.
This former sugar plantation’s cottages and villas were designed by Bill Bensley, an architect celebrated for his work on high-end resorts in Asia. Each is outfitted with a crisp modern sensibility and a certain romantic edge that conjures up the elegance of the West Indies’ colonial era: think polished wood, white shutters, freestanding tubs, and bespoke bath products. As if sweeping views of the sea and forest from your wraparound veranda weren’t enough, there’s a daybed, a plunge pool, and a high-tech home-cinema setup that has to be seen to be believed.
And those are just the standard “guesthouses.” Villas and Farmhouses are even more luxurious, with extras like full kitchens, infinity pools, and wine fridges stocked by the hotel’s sommelier according to your preferences. But you get the picture. Belle Mont Farm is a dream of a place. As an added benefit, it’s eco-friendly and sustainable. True, it isn’t right on the beach, but inland; it’s not a standalone hotel, but one component of a larger development that’s still underway. But you’re unlikely to care about any of that when you’re dining in one of the farm-to-table dining venues, swinging a racket or a club or pedaling on a bike amid bright flowers and lush foliage, or lying face-down on a massage table at the Mango Walk spa.
