Hotel Kossak
Plac Kossaka 1, Krakow, Poland
60 Rooms
Contemporary Classic & Lively
There’s a bit of a Prague-like air around Krakow at the moment, where a small-b bohemian vibe combines with the historical charms of the Gothic old town to create the sort of one-of-a-kind character that makes a compelling travel destination. It’s not all hostels and cathedrals though — the Kossak Hotel is evidence of a third thread, a bit of international-style contemporary design, in the service of a boutique hotel that’s equally well suited to aesthetically inclined business travelers and high-end urban leisure guests.
The hotel’s location is central, right on the Kossak Square that gives it its name. And while the building is pretty far from being the most architecturally distinguished structure in town, the interiors are a stylish surprise, the rooms kitted out in neutrals and rich violets, furnished with an eclectic collection of contemporary pieces. They start out cozy, but the five suites are almost up to residential standard, with views of the old town and Wawel Castle.
A fine dining restaurant and a casual café see to guests’ gustatory needs, and the latter opens onto what might be the hotel’s most inspired space: the roof terrace, with its panoramic view of the city, tips the Kossak into must-see territory.
