One MICHELIN Key · A very special stay
The original Soho House was set in the London neighborhood of the same name, a place that’s no stranger to members’ clubs with a hospitality element and a creative-class focus. Since then they’ve expanded to settings as far-flung as Mumbai and Mykonos — and for their first location in the southern United States they chose Austin, Texas, a picture-perfect example of a city whose recent boom is largely fueled by the blossoming of its local creative industries.
And Austin is ready for Soho House’s brand of luxury in a way it wouldn’t have been a mere ten years before. South Congress Avenue, the central axis of the south side of town, is home to a few fine boutique hotels, but nothing quite like Soho House Austin. It’s as stylish as you’d expect, and while the construction is brand new, its style is a pleasantly lived-in mix of Texas modernism and antique Spanish influences.
The bedrooms are eclectic and richly textured, a thoroughly localized take on the Soho House style. Fine details like Marshall sound systems and Cowshed bath products are present at all levels; as you move up the range, the rooms introduce extravagances like kitchenettes, powder rooms, and freestanding bathtubs.
Meanwhile the common spaces, always a focus for high-end boutique hotels, are a particular point of emphasis. An impressive collection of contemporary art decorates the events spaces and dining and drinking venues; these include Club Cecconi’s, a versatile restaurant and bar that spills out onto Soho House’s terrace; Dante’s HiFi+, a vinyl listening pop-up bar; the Screening Room, a luxurious 46-seat theater; and the Music Room, an intimate performance venue.
