The Lumiares Hotel is an 18th-century mansion in the city’s elevated Bairro Alto district, one whose exterior splendor remains intact but whose interiors have been thoroughly renovated to make way for 53 luxurious suites and a beautiful little spa and fitness center. Even the entry-level studios come with kitchens, and the high-end suites gain not just space but spectacular views as well — though all guests partake equally in the panorama from the terrace at the Lumi Rooftop Bar and Restaurant.

I loved the the one bedroom suite room was really like a one bedroom apartment. The furniture etc made it feel like a modern home and not at all like a standard corporate feeling hotel room. Great location. Beautiful spot to eat breakfast on the top floor. Helpful staff.
