MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

It’s long been the case that just about any European cuisine is represented at its very best in Japan; Fauchon L’Hôtel tests this proposition, as the French culinary arts brand Fauchon has created a hotel in Kyoto that’s both authentically Japanese and perhaps more Parisian than most hotels in Paris. The rooms are stunning, with hot pink accents against a monochrome Art Deco–inspired backdrop. And the food and beverage outlets, naturally, are particular strengths, from the Salon de Thé and the on-site patisserie to the Grand Café restaurant and, remarkably enough, the first-ever Fauchon Spa.
