The volcanic island of Salina, in the Aeolian Islands off the north coast of Sicily, shares some similarities with certain Greek islands, and the Principe di Salina, in all its whitewashed glory, is the Italian answer to the finest Cycladic escapes. With just twelve rooms it’s just about as intimate as can be, and its high hillside location makes for spectacularly far-ranging views.
