Harmony Seljalandsfoss

Dilaflöt, Hvolsvöllur, Iceland
2 Rooms
Modern Design & Secluded
Though it’s just ten minutes’ drive from the waterfall for which it’s named, Harmony Seljalandsfoss feels every bit as secluded as you would want a rural Icelandic escape to be — and the fact that it comprises a mere two lodges, placed almost comically far apart, only adds to the thoroughgoing sense of privacy. Each of them is a modern cottage, built mostly from glass, to maximize the views — and in the bedrooms that includes the ceiling, the better to glimpse the famous Northern Lights.

Each one also comes with a private sauna and hot tub in a separate glassed-in outbuilding, so you never have to leave the view behind. What they don’t have is any kind of common space — no lobby, no reception, and certainly no restaurant. Anyone who’s made it this far is mobile, presumably, and their days will be spent exploring the South Coast of Iceland; you’ll bring what you need to supply your cottage’s kitchenette.
