Modern Design & Quiet
In a country steeped in the stories of ancient civilizations, it’s not such a surprise that history also lives on the Elysia Boutique Hotel. While the 13-key property might reflect today’s contemporary style, centuries-old remnants have been artfully weaved into the minimalist design, from parts of an Ottoman-period wall and flooring to a fragment of a Venetian-era doorway. As modern as they are, even the guest rooms look to the past, with views across Chania’s Old Town and Byzantine walls. The hotel’s Cretan restaurant Coutellerie takes its name from the historic neighborhood of Machairadika that sits just outside, once home to the island’s knife-makers and now filled with leather and metal artisans. For exploring beyond Chania, the hotel can organize mountain hikes, guided tours and day trips to one of the many pristine beaches across the island.
