MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Safe to say the island of Mykonos has fully matured as a holiday destination — if the word “riviera” puts you a little bit in mind of the Côte d’Azur, you’re not far off, as Mykonos town is undiscovered no more. Which, in a way, is what makes the Mykonos Riviera Hotel & Spa so special. From here it’s just about possible to think of yourself as secluded in some wild, far-flung destination, even though you’re minutes from town (and even closer to Agios Stefanos beach).

Much of this is due to the privacy of the rooms, many of which expertly frame views directly out to sea. The interiors echo the setting, in stark white and Aegean blue, with subtly warm, organic accents. This hotel is brand new, which means the comforts and the electronics are totally up to date, including handmade mattresses, 49-inch televisions, and Nespresso machines.

A spa may be taken as read, as well as a hammam, a thalassotherapy pool, and a gym. The infinity pool is a memorable one, built with a glass bottom at the point where it cantilevers out over the cliffside. Meanwhile Lafs, the restaurant, looks out over the marina, and serves inventive Greek cuisine made from fresh organic produce.
